Come Darkness, a project curated by Maria Alexandra Vettese, is a yearly homage to winter light and a chance to welcome in the changing season. In 2009 MAV highlighted the work of 26 artists in a small installation and in 2010 MAV created a small line of silk scarves, along with a book, using her own photographs of the early winter skies. This December MAV is highlighting the work of More & Co. (her creative studio) through 8 photographs, 1 film and 1 large-scale painting. There is also a very small run of commemorative tote bags.
I am not sure about you but this year I, and those around me, have felt a little lost. As the late afternoon darkness set in over the last weeks I have somehow felt comforted by it. I usually feel confused and sad but this year it's a completely different feeling. I feel bolstered by the black cave and by the warm indoor or candle light that surrounds me. I have realized that the darkness is something that we all share. I have noticed that I don't feel so alone in finding my way. I have seen in the last weeks that I don't feel so lost after all.
I am honored to have curated the work of my creative partners for this years' show. Ryan's photographs are oddly beautiful and soothing and CDR's panel is like a pulsing beacon of calming tone and light. Ryan also created a film which I wish you could all see in its entirety. It's mesmerizing. My own photographs represent a small investigation of the darkness I was seeing in early November while on a trip to England and Sweden. I am hopeful to have a "part two" for this project in January so stay tuned! Thank you for looking at our work. I truly appreciate your time.
